Will Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Playoff Dreams be Alive after today’s match against Kings XI Punjab

Sunrisers Hyderabad has not been at its best in IPL 12. The team had failed to perform at its best throughout the season. Though the openers David Warner and Johnny Bairstow and Bowlers Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed had led the team to its victory couple of times, the failure of these limited number of players had led to the team losing the match every time.

SRH could be considered one of the strongest teams in IPL 12. Given its list of Batsmen and Bowlers, it is the perfect blend of players one can see in a team. But, the team’s allrounders Yousuf Pathan and Manish Pandey haven’t been their best since the beginning of the tournament and it had cost the team dearly.

Nevertheless, the team had managed to secure 10 points in 11 matches it had played. Out of the 5 victories of the team, Batsmen Johnny Bairstow and David Warner deserve a lion’s share of the credit. In their first victory against Rajasthan Royals, though it was Rashid Khan who finished the match with his fantastic Batting, in the end, it was David Warner and Johnny Bairstow scored 69 and 45 respectively.

The duo scored a record-breaking partnership of 202 for the first wicket in which both of them made centuries against RCB. SRH won that match solely because of their innings. The next victory against DC was also because of Johnny Bairstow’s 48 in 28 balls. In all the matches that SRH had played, it was the duo that was the top performers in batting except in the last two matches where Manish Pandey scored 83 and 61 runs respectively. The same is the case with the Bowlers of SRH. Of the three victories, only one was credited to a Bowler.

With this kind of inconsistency, it is highly difficult for the SRH team to enter the playoffs. The team still has 4 matches to play and if it manages to win in all four or at least three it might get a chance to proceed further. SRH had already lost its first match against KXIP which can make the team stand tall against it the second time.

But, KXIP holds the same points as SRH also needs the same number of victories to enter the playoffs which can make the teams fight harder. Due to this, today’s match against KXIP is a crucial one for both the teams.
